Mothering Joy
was created as reminder to return home, to our first home, our bodies, our spirit. A play on words to Mother Our Joy in our lives. My middle name is Joy. The name Joy is a namesake connected to my maternal line, another reason it was born to make space and heal the deepest parts .Mothering Joy is the umbrella for my life work in the Arts. A way to communicate with the world through my artistry and gifts of service to the community.
During the birth of my daughter and essentially through rebirthing myself, ignited a fire within my spirit to dive into birth work. I’ve studied with many incredible Midwives and Reproductive Justice leaders over the years. Birth is the initiation to connect to the depths of you. My intention and hope is to help create an "opening" to access all the knowledge, creativity and strengthen that's already deep inside of you!
Weaving together the many professions I work within. Centering our Joy along the way, whether working with Mothers in their home supporting during or after birth, offering Reiki to elders or newborns. This is heart work rooted in supporting the communities, I’ve had the opportunity to teach in different studios in NYC for Kundalini Yoga and had the privilege of sharing breath work practices on Riker’s Island in 2024. My art practice is deeply inspired by my experiences in care taking roles especially as a Mother, exploring the human body, the emotions , maternal and mental health along with the raw beauty of this life from current events and tragedies happening in the world with rich colors and bold strokes in paintings. My art practice is multi disciplinary with performance art and photography being another way of expressing my inner world through the arts. I’ve exhibited in solo and group shows in NYC and on along the north east region. Currently working on an ongoing series depicting sacred portals and the moments inside multidimensional experiences as human beings and Mothers.
I currently reside in NYC with my family. I work as a full spectrum birth worker, reiki practitioner, multi-disciplinary artist, lactation consultant, birth art mentor, kundalini yoga instructor and horseback riding instructor in all surrounding boroughs, parts of NJ and CT.
I acknowledge Indigenous communities, and all the Native lands we walk on. The Root, and source of all teachings and the privileges I have to be granted the ok, to share these offerings with community. I pledge to continuously respect these teachings and the wisdom I have received over the years.
It's more than an honor to hold space in these sacred portals. Endless gratitude to have the opportunity to be in service with and for you.
With Love and Strength,
Katie Joy * Dyal Chand
